Forgetful

I have been forgetful of stuff these past few years, and that's likely because of my awful sleeping habits.

I usually put things in my calendar on my phone to remember, but even then I may forget to do that simple thing. Sometimes I look at dates I swear that something important occurs on, but without anything on my calendar, I'm not sure if there is or not. I don't think I've missed any, or many, important events, but perhaps something was going on that I had heard of earlier in the week that I just didn't put a reminder in on that date.

Every day when I go out, I always feel like something is missing, and whenever I come back home, I always feel like I forgot something, even if I barely took anything with me. I have a mental checklist of the important stuff, but it's a bit harder when I have "non-important" stuff with me that isn't my phone, wallet, or keys. No matter how little I take, I always have the feeling that I'm forgetting something.

That feeling is agonizing because my anxiety spikes as a result. Even as simple as remembering if I locked the door at home, despite having just done it minutes ago, I have gone out of my way to check it was locked.

Something a little more concerning is when I go into "autopilot" when driving. I think there's a term for it, but sometimes I can't recall parts of my drive when driving around.

I'll kind of space out and then "come to" at some point during my drive, unable to recall how I got there. It's less of blacking out and more that I don't remember anything of note during the drive. I'll be driving down routes I already know, space out, and then become conscious again towards the end of the route with no recollection of the streets I drove down. It scares me sometimes because I have no idea if I would realize if I hit something or not.

I don't even know if my memory is even salvageable at this point. I'm only in my early 20s, but my memory is garbage. Sometimes I hardly remember if I ate the previous day or not, much less what I had to eat. Not that I really care if I eat or not. I don't really get hungry, so it's not an issue if I forget to eat for a day.
